WELCOME BACK ALL OUR SMART CHILDREN!
I am so pleased to see so many of our St. Andrew’s girls and boys wearing the Winter uniform of shirts and ties. They look so smart! Of course, there are some children who find a tie very uncomfortable and distracting then it’s absolutely fine for them to stay in polo shirts for the Winter season. Otherwise, it’s back to polo shirts (if you wish) after Easter. I do like as many children as possible to wear shirts and ties (even in Summer) because I feel that it distinguishes St. Andrew’s pupils in the community as representing a modern school with traditional values. Many thanks for your support in this matter, it is much appreciated.

IMPORTANT NOTICE – HEALTH AND SAFETY
Parking in Mort Street, Heardman Avenure and Whiteside Avenue
We are again hearing concerns from residents of the above addresses. Some of them cannot access or leave their properties by car due to double-parking, also some vehicles have been damaged. I know that these areas can become extremely congested, and we continue to work to try to alleviate this persistent problem. With this in mind, here are some suggestions for which I would appreciate your consideration:
Please walk to school if you live within a comfortable walking distance for your child. It’s great exercise for them too and gives them a good start to the day.
If you live too far away to walk, consider driving part of the way, park somewhere safe, and walk the rest.
I know everyone is very busy with work commitments etc, so if time constraints prevent walking as an option, please take care when parking in the area near school not to cause obstructions for residents.
Also please do not attempt to perform three-point-turns in front of school as children are walking into the building and cannot easily be seen in rear-view mirrors.
I am again going to seek advice from local police and also Wigan Council in the hope that they will have some ideas and strategies to help us in our continuing quest to solve this persistent problem.
Thank you very much indeed for your support in this matter.

ABSENCE LETTERS – IMPORTANT NOTICE
As a school it is extremely important that we, on behalf of the Education Authority, closely monitor pupils’ absences, and part of this work involves keeping records. Therefore we are reminding parents and carers to please always send written confirmation of the reasons for an absence.
PROCEDURE FOR NOTIFYING SCHOOL OF A CHILD’S ABSENCE
On the day of the absence, please ring school before 9.30am to leave a message for the class teacher.
When the child returns to school, please send a written note confirming the reason for the absence, or simply fill in an absence slip (available at the school office) and hand to Mrs Swift.
Many Thanks

PLEASE BRING A COAT TO SCHOOL
Please could parents ensure your child brings a coat to school, especially now the cold weather has arrived. Many thanks.
