WIGAN ST ANDREW’S CE PRIMARY SCHOOL

NEWSLETTER 1

WELCOME BACK

It’s lovely to see all of our St. Andrew’s children after the summer, and parents and carers too! A special welcome to our new children and their families, we are excited about getting to know you!

As you are aware, there have been some changes over the summer holidays, most notably the renovations to the entire KS1 and Foundation Stage departments. The children (and staff) are really pleased with their new learning environment – it has been long awaited. St. Andrew’s school is a very old building and we are grateful to the Liverpool Diocese who has facilitated this much needed project.

A big thank you to you all for your patience and understanding regarding the changes to the procedures for children arriving and leaving school. Your co-operation has helped us ensure security at these crucial times of the day.

Although we did send out instructions before the holidays regarding dropping off and picking up, we have received feedback that further clarification would be appreciated so I hope the following is helpful:

Procedure for arriving and departing school

Mort Street Access – KS1

If you are bringing your child to school down Mort Street, then you will bring your child to the side door next to the reception area where they will go directly to the classroom.

If you come down Mort Street to pick up your child, then you will go through the gate next to the car park, walk around the school building through the playgrounds and up to the decking and the Year 1 & Year 2 classroom doors.

Mort Street Access – KS2

Come down Mort Street and the children go through the new gate next to the car park.

Picking up arrangements are as normal.

First Avenue Access – KS1

If you are bringing your child to school down First Avenue, then you will go down the steps and access the decking leading to the Year1 & Year2 classroom doors.

Picking up arrangements are the same as dropping off.

First Avenue Access – KS2

If you are bringing your child to school down First Avenue, then arrangements remain the same as in the past with the children walking down the KS1 playground to the KS2 playground.

If you come down First Avenue to pick up your child, then you will need to walk down through the KS1 playground, up through the KS2 playground and through the gates at the front of the school to pick up your child(ren) from the usual place (KS2 exit door).

Picking up your child from more than Key Stage

If you have children in both KS1 & KS2 then you have two options:

Option 1

Pick up your youngest child(ren) first, then go to the KS2 door to collect your elder child(ren).

Option 2 (KS2 children only)

You can give written permission to your child’s class teacher for your child to walk around school to meet you at the First Avenue entrance.
