This morning in Whole School Worship Mrs Hoban read a story from the Bible. The story was about Jesus and the Taxman from the New Testament.
Taxmen in the time of Jesus were often not very nice people. The taxman in the story often kept part of the taxes he collected for himself. For this reason, many of the people did not like him. The taxman was called Zacchaeus.
Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus when he came to his town, Jericho , so Zacchaeus climbed a tree in order to see Jesus when he walked passed.
Jesus decided that he would go to Zacchaeus’s house for dinner that night. Many of the people were surprised and shocked that Jesus chose to eat at Zacchaeus’s house – even Zacchaeus himself!
After dinner with Jesus, Zacchaeus apologised to the people for all of the wrong that he had done. He promised to give back all of the money that he had stolen and to also give half of everything that he owned to the poor. Everybody cheered! The people who had hated Zacchaeus, now loved him.
Zacchaeus had changed because he had found God’s love through Jesus.
Worship Club talked to us about changes. Some changes we can see and there are some changes that we can’t see, for example how a person has changed. However, we can see the impact of these changes.
Worship Club created a quiz for us all to solve about how people can change. Great work Team St. Andrew’s!
