WIGAN ST ANDREW’S CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER FRIDAY 9/9/2022
Dear Parents and Carers,
| We have now entered a period of national mourning that will continue until the end of the State Funeral. Guidance providing the public, businesses and institutions with advice on the period of national mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be issued by the Cabinet Office and available on GOV.?UK.
Once details of the funeral are confirmed by the Royal Household, I will write to you with further guidance and information. In the meantime, Government guidance states that; “Schools and Further Education settings should remain open. Whilst normal attendance is expected, headteachers continue to have the power to authorise leaves of absence for pupils in exceptional circumstances. Any requests for leave of absence should be considered on a case-by-case basis taking into account individual circumstances.” When someone dies who has been part of a child’s life in any way, it is quite normal for this to trigger a wide range of feelings and raise questions about life, death and mortality that perhaps haven’t been at the forefront of your child’s thoughts until now. As professionals we expect this, and we are used to adapting our school life to support children in reacting to events in their lives as they happen. We maximise the opportunities for children to learn and grow emotionally, academically and spiritually through talking about their experience. Please remember that we are always here to help families nurture their children through life as they respond to the events in the world. Further support can be found at Minded – a source of information to support children and young people to manage death and loss. You can also visit the Palace’s website for more information about the mourning period: www.royal.uk. God Bless (Mrs Massey)
MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING School is holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday 23rd September 2022. On that day parents/carers are welcome to come in to school between 9.00am and 10.00am for coffee and cake. We are asking for donations of cakes (homemade or bought) which would be very much appreciated. The children will also be taking part and are asked to bring a donation which will include a cake and drink. Many thanks. (The Staff)
Many thanks
