Dear Parent or Carer,
We are now on Twitter! Yes, it’s true. We now have a Wigan St. Andrew’s Twitter Page (search @wiganstandrews and please ‘follow’ us).
The school Twitter account will use Twitter to share positive messages or important information about school. Twitter specifically will be a means by which we can quickly share and celebrate our pupils’ achievements and successes. It will enable us to demonstrate a safe and responsible use of social media.
The Wigan St. Andrew’s Twitter Page will be a “broadcast” account. This is a one-way flow of communication to parents / carers and can be used to advise recipients of, for example, news and events, school trips and musical or sporting activities. It can also be used to report on emergency situations, for example, snow days, loss of school heating or catering services.
School Policy for acceptable use:
- The school Twitter account will be run by Mr Sharkey and other members of staff at St. Andrew’s.
- The school Twitter account will be a Public account (September 2019).
- Senior leaders will monitor followers and block any who appear not to be school appropriate.
- The school Twitter account will not reply to any ‘replies’ on Twitter. This is not the platform to discuss or debate school related issues.
- Inappropriate comments will be blocked and reported.
- The school Twitter account will follow educationally linked accounts and accredited partners who we work with. For example, a children’s author or sports club we have links with.
- The school Twitter account will only use children’s first names when referencing children. Photo consent must be obtained to post photographs of children (forename only). If consent has been refused, the school Twitter account will only post photographs of work and learning. For example, we may share a photo of a child creating a piece of artwork that features the child’s hands or back of the head. Their face(s) must not be shown without consent.
As school already has permission for your child to be photographed for the school website, we shall use this as consent to use their image for the school Twitter account, unless requested not to. If you do not agree to photo consent for your child’s image and forename appearing on the school Twitter account please inform the school office using the slip below.
The school Twitter account is active now but will only begin using photographs to celebrate children’s work and achievements after the October half-term.
Kind Regards, Mr Sharkey
I do not give permission for my child’s image to be used on the Wigan St. Andrew’s C.E. Primary School Twitter Page.
