Ash Wednesday – The Beginning of Lent

Posted by admin in News

Today is St. Valentine’s Day and also Ash Wednesday; both days are about love.

Ash Wednesday is the start of a journey where we think about how we can be closer to God and to God’s love.

In Whole School Worship we shared the story of Timothy Bear and talked about how Timothy gave up honey for Lent. Timothy liked honey a lot. He also liked football too. He was desperate to play for Bearchester United and he tried and tried and tried his best in football training to make himself fitter and faster. He also supported the team at every game that he was not picked for. Timothy never gave up on himself; he kept going and eventually he was picked to play for Bearchester United. Timothy was delighted because his hard work and determination was worthwhile.

If we work hard and never give up, we can achieve our goals – just like Timothy Bear did.

In Lent, we can give up things ( like honey ) or we can do more things – we can pray more to God, we can play with children that we don’t normally play with, we can give more to charity, we can try to be kinder and more helpful to others.

Worship Club shared their prayers with us as we reflected on what we could do for Lent this year.

We thanked God for loving us, trusting us and forgiving us of our sins.
