Our Christian Values – Forgiveness

Posted by admin in News

Forgiveness

Our Christian value for this half-term is ‘Forgiveness’. We are looking at stories from the Bible and other examples of stories that encourage the children to think about this value.

During Lent the children are thinking about ways they can better themselves and for some of them, get closer to God. In RE we are looking at the Easter story and the joy of Easter, the victory of Jesus over death and the sins of the world.

We are exploring the fact that forgiveness is not only good for the person being forgiven, but for the one who forgives them too. Holding on to feelings of anger, hate and bitterness can leave us feeling worse than what actually upset us in the first place. We all make mistakes and we all hope to be forgiven, but ‘sorry’ must mean we are sorry and we must try not to make the same mistakes over and over.

At St. Andrew’s we encourage this value on a daily basis, forgiveness supports all our other values, especially ‘Friendship’, ‘Peace’ and ‘Trust’. By forgiving others we show ‘Compassion’ and ‘Thankfulness’ sums up the feeling of being forgiven and of moving forward after fall-outs and mistakes.

We hope you will talk to your children about how it feels to be forgiven and how they can forgive others.
