ST ANDREW’S CHRISTIAN VALUE

Our Christian value for this half-term is ‘Forgiveness’. We are looking at stories from the Bible and other examples of stories that encourage the children to think about this value.

During Lent the children are thinking about ways they can better themselves and for some of them, get closer to God. In RE we are looking at the Easter story and the joy of Easter, the victory of Jesus over death and the sins of the world.

We are exploring the fact that forgiveness is not only good for the person being forgiven, but for the one who forgives them too. Holding on to feelings of anger, hate and bitterness can leave us feeling worse than what actually upset us in the first place. We all make mistakes and we all hope to be forgiven, but ‘sorry’ must mean we are sorry and we must try not to make the same mistakes over and over.

At St. Andrew’s we encourage this value on a daily basis, forgiveness supports all our other values, especially ‘Friendship’, ‘Peace’ and ‘Trust’. By forgiving others we show ‘Compassion’ and ‘Thankfulness’ sums up the feeling of being forgiven and of moving forward after fall-outs and mistakes.

We hope you will talk to your children about how it feels to be forgiven and how they can forgive others.

Year 6 Confirmation 2017

This year’s Confirmation will take place at Wigan Parish Church on Tuesday 25th April 2017. Originally, we had been asked to attend a confirmation service in the middle of SATs week at Liverpool Cathedral, which we felt was not the ideal time for a late night and celebrations.

Vicar Tina has asked if I would be happy to lead the confirmation classes in school again, which I am more than happy to do. Mrs Massey has offered to cover my class for a lesson a week so that it can be done during school time, as a lot of the children are involved in after school clubs and booster classes.

If your child is thinking of getting confirmed, they should try to attend church as much as possible between now and confirmation. They are making promises to God and should have an understanding of the promises they are making. I will send out forms to those who wish to be confirmed, they can change their minds at any point if they are not sure they are ready to confirm what they believe yet.

If you have any questions at all, please come and see me or have a chat with Tina at church.

Sunday worship at St Andrew’s is at 10 am every Sunday and is as follows:

1st Sunday of the month is Café Church in the Parish Centre.

The 2nd Sunday of the month is a family Eucharist Service.

The 3rd Sunday of the month is Morning Worship in church – no communion.

The 4th Sunday of the month is a Eucharist Service.

Holy Communion also takes place every Tuesday at 7:00pm.

RED NOSE DAY – FRIDAY 24TH MARCH

This year we are going to have a ‘Red Nose Day Disco’. Children can come to school in their own clothes or fancy dress if they wish.

KS1 and Reception will have their disco during the afternoon. KS2 classes will be having their disco when school finishes and can be collected at 5.00pm.  The children will be provided with refreshments.

We would welcome any donations that you are able to send in support of this very worthy charity.

Many thanks.
